This workout was made by Tyler Layne as a tribute to his mother Alison Layne Bissell. She passed away from stage four lung cancer February 26th 2012 after a painful 1,111 days of fighting. Alison represented everything a dedicated, hard working, charitable, and loving person is. She dedicated her life to doing everything she could to make everyone happy, especially those in need.

HOPE Totes is a 501c3 organization that brings HOPE to those in need. When our friend, Alison, discovered that she had terminal cancer the people around her jumped into action. Her family took care of her physical needs. Her doctors began working on her medical needs. Friends and family joined together to meet her spiritual needs. With all of the offers of help, the one thing Alison needed most now was HOPE. Some of that came from her family and friends. Some of it came from her doctors. But the greatest source of HOPE came from her Heavenly Father. We bonded together to create our HOPE bible study and it gave all of us a great peace. We discovered that no matter what your situation, whether you have just been diagnosed with cancer, are struggling as a single mom, if your spouse has lost a job, or you are fleeing from an abusive situation, if you rely on Him, He will give you peace. He Offers Peace in Every situation. We cling to the verse “May our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father, who loved us by His grace give us eternal encouragement and good hope, encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word” 2 Thessalonians 2:16-17.
Sometimes the most powerful actions that a person can take is to give freely and expect nothing in return. Thus the idea behind the HOPE Tote. Our goal is to fill the Totes with items tailored to meet the needs of the individual who God has placed in our path. By filling a HOPE Tote with items that are helpful to that situation, we share the message that if you are in need of HOPE, you are not alone. Rely on Him and he will bring you peace. In the meantime, know that you have friends who care enough to pray for you. The material gifts are just an earthly reminder of spiritual blessings to come. Cancer patients need soft blankets, neck pillows to make chemo treatments more comfortable, lotions, funny reading material, anything that can bring a smile to their face or comfort throughout their day. Those in need can take many forms-storm victims who’ve lost their home and all their possessions, families who are having trouble making ends meet, men and women who face emotional, physical and spiritual turmoil or upheaval. As the volunteers of HOPE go about their daily lives they will cross paths with these people and God will imprint on their hearts the items those in need require. The only requirement of receiving a HOPE filled Tote is to pass the blessing along whenever, wherever they can. The Totes can be filled with as many material items as possible but they can also be passed along filled only with HOPE, prayer and with the possibility of helping others. HOPE transcends race, cultures, economic levels and religious denominations. Wherever there is a need for HOPE our goal is place a HOPE tote in the hands of those who need it only asking that in return the love, serenity and peace provided by the gift be passed along to others. Our goal is that the same HOPE tote will be passed from person to person, family to family, need to need many times over spreading HOPE one heart at a time.
